His mother Mayme Edna was a teacher and his father Morgan Porterfield Freeman was a barber who died on April 27, 1961, from cirrhosis. He debut himself in the age of nine years and played a lead role in the school play. He was graduated from Broad Street but got a drama scholarship form Jackson State University.

He himself is an actor, producer and a narrator.
